Information
More than 50% of UK emission stem from urban environments. London alone contributes 11% of total CO2 emissions. But cities are hubs of growth, contributing more than 26% of the UK’s economic output. With urban populations increasing and economic activity set to continue as we emerge from a third COVID-19 lockdown, there are growing concerns over the health and wellbeing of our urban citizens linked to air pollution, climate change and wider environmental pressures. We need a radical new approach to national and local policy, public-private partnerships and funding in our cities.
Cities present a complex challenge for policy makers and businesses who want to advance the green agenda. A more effective, joined-up approach across all departments, between jurisdictions, and together with businesses is desperately needed to tackle the dual threats of climate change, health and environment pressures to unlock cities green growth potential.
Day two dives into the dual challenges inviting city leaders developing effective policy interventions, collaborating with businesses to deploy technological solutions, and investing in green infrastructure development that will not only tackle climate change but create a cleaner, safer and resilient cities.
