Green Homes & Buildings: Track Chair Opening Remarks

The built environment accounts for 40% of UK emissions, half of which is from energy used in domestic housing. Retrofitting 29 million homes, and building more energy efficient and sustainable housing stock could drastically reduce emissions, create thousands of jobs, and increase the social, environmental and health impacts on our communities. Retrofitting the UK’s housing stock could become the new solar and wind revolution. The Green Homes track explores how greater public-private cooperation and new financing mechanisms can be reinvigorated and reinvented to catalyse change in our housing and commercial building stock to contribute to the UK’s Net Zero transition under the Prime Minister’s Ten Point Plan.
